CONCEPT
CONCEPT
Contemporary West African restaurant, Shakara, is the latest addition to London’s vibrant dining scene. Nestled in the heart of Marylebone, Shakara serves to provide a thoughtfully curated menu of exceptional African cuisine paired with fine mixology. Rooted in rich cultural traditions and designed to ignite all the senses, Shakara offers a sanctuary of sophisticated indulgence with exclusive private dining.
The space is adorned with the warm radiance of pendant lights, earthy-coloured terracotta tiles inspired by Nigeria’s red soil, and abstract artwork that showcases artists from esteemed institutions such as The Red Dot Gallery. From the brand’s logo reflecting a culturally-inspired ‘K’ and talking drum graphic elegantly stamped into wax, the launch of Shakara honours Yoruba cultural heritage while simultaneously incorporating a sense of timeless sophistication and exclusivity.
The chef
Chefs Angelo Gonzalez and Victor Okunowo create a luxurious culinary experience that blends heritage with innovation. Angelo, a rising star in the industry, draws on his Colombian roots to craft sophisticated dishes that honour traditional flavours like sudado and arepa, infused with contemporary artistry. Victor, a MasterChef Professionals 2020 semi-finalist and a trailblazer in African fine dining, combines West African techniques with global influences, bringing unmatched elegance to every plate.
Together, their experience and exceptional craftsmanship transform Shakara into an unparalleled destination, South American and African cuisines display notable similarities, stemming from their shared cultural and historical origins. Where tradition meets refinement and every dish tells a story of cultural excellence.
